‘epicVerb’ digital reverberation simulator

Soon to be released:

epicverb_small2

The “epicVerb” reverberation device aims at both: Tight small room and ambience effect simulation well suited to modern drum and vocal productions up to large “epic” halls as known from high quality outboard gear. This reverbs sound ranges from rather concrete or even edgy up to smooth, transparent and artifact free reverb tails. It is designed for maximum flexibility and usability and to take place as a true high quality stereo main reverb.

“epicVerb” features two different reverberation modes and 6 different stereo early reflection models. There are some standard reverb controls like ‘TIME’, ‘DAMP’ or ’PRE-DELAY’ as well as reverb tail modulation and detailed control over very first reflection patterns as an option.
It offers different reverb time handling for high and low frequencies as well as a musical sounding EQ section containing two “BootEQ” equalizers and additional high- and lowpass filtering.

Spec and requirements

PC / VST compatible
SSE and Assembler optimized sound engine
State-of-the-art digital signal processing
Smooth reverb tail processing without any ringing or metallic sounding artifacts
Different reverb and early reflection modes for maximum flexibility

  1. Hi Bootsie,

congratulations to your blog! Looks really cool. So is epicVerb. I wish you all the best for all your plans.

    Best wishes, FRitz

  2. i`m the biggest reverb whore on the planet and i wish you good luck for the release, i`m very curious!

  3. Looking good mate!

What I like about your stuff is that it’s got character!

    Cheers from F-Bockenheim!

  4. shanecgriffo says:

congratulations on the site.. cant wait for the release. Its gonna be bigger than christmas/new years, combined 🙂

  5. Hello Bootsie,

a very good and promising reverb plugin. I really wonder what it would sound like. The best for you and your projects in 2009.

    enroe.

  6. Hi Bootsie,
congrats on your new site !
Looking forward to the release of epicVerb like everybody else.
Will it be able to replace my trusty Reverb A ? Will it (inofficially of course) support 64bit on my new s/h MegaST ? Have I missed out on the group buy ?
    Questions over questions …
    Cheers,
    susiwong

  7. hi

    Great work!!!!!!

    Thank You!

  8. Well, so far I have been unsuccessful in finding a reverb plugin that I actually like. I have tried them all from Altiverb (probably among the best) down to all the freebies…nothing satisfies me, especially on big warm, lush vocals. Just not getting it. I do hope yours is the answer to my dreams Bootsie. I await your release with abated breath and great anticipation.

  9. Hello Bootsie!

Thank you so much. It is a milestone in the development of algorithmic reverb plugins. My first test prove that it is very warm sounding – and very flexible to handle.

Also very honourable: It is a free plugin! So it’s also a giant step in the freeware domain of plugins and music.

  10. It finally arrived! Great! Thanks very much!

  11. Permalink says:

    Thanks Bootsie!!!

This is a really amazing plugin! I don’t know any commercial software that does a better job! And you’re giving it away for free! Christmas is back again. I appreciate it very much!

Again thanks for this really great job!

  12. Hey Bootsy, you’ve got so many cool things on your blogg!! Just wanted to ask if you are by any chance planning on releasing them as Mac versions (AU etc)??? Would be great!!!

  13. EpicVerb is very good. Compared it with Ambience, CSR, Arts Acoustic, and WarmVerb and was able to achieve a similar sound (but not identical of course) with EpicVerb. Only ~5% CPU max on my QX6800, which is about the same ballpark for AAS which is my goto verb, and still better than CSR.

Kudos to you for the hardcore DSP optimizations. You’ve proven it /can/ be done with SM and now I can’t blame SM platform for slow loading CPU hog type of plugs, but only the plugin developer /using/ SM.

Will pay serious attention to further activity coming from this sector 🙂

  14. Hi Bootsy. I really like the EpikVerb and it finding it’s way into more and more of my projects lately. The early reflections controls are making me a bit insecure thaugh. If you could provide a manual or just give me a run down that woul be asome.

A get the volume part but the timming is a big ??? to me.. should they be multiples of the Pre-delay, are they a nother kind of predelay so if i was to have a pre of 11ms and the first ER at 22 ( say ) would that mean that my reverb is only gonnabe hurd after 33ms ???

    Thank you so much

    -Alxi-

  15. I feel a bit stupid. EV is provided with a very well writen manual :S Good Job Bootsy 🙂

  16. I forgot that I had downloaded EV, and just on a whim I happened to stumble upon it in my plugins list.

I was totally shocked at how good it sounded. I love the option to really hit the mid/side info.

Great stuff. Can’t wait to actually try it on a good sounding project!

  18. epicVerb is my goto verb. From short tight ambiences to large lush spaces, and everything in between, this is the algo verb to beat. The interface is gorgeous and its layout makes the verb super easy to tweak. Excellent work Mr. Bootsie and Patrick. Thank you!

  19. Got here stumbling from Gearslutz Forum: Great Plugs ; ]

  20. Hello Bootsy !

I simply love the plugins… I use NastyVSD on my master bus.
I also enjoyed EpicVerb… until I switched to Windows 7 64bits… I use Reaper, and for some reason… EpicVerb seem to work but after a few seconds, it enters a kind of feedback loop, the level raises slowly until it destroys my ears…

Too bad because I really loved its sound !! No idea of what is going on….

  21. Hi Bootsy,

i think i just say it at homerecording.de, but here again: This ist the best Reverb Plugin I ever used. It works like charm, sounds absolutly fantastic and is easy to use. And the best thing (maybe not the best, but for me it is great 😉 ): It is for free.

So thank you very, very much for your hard work. I am looking forward to the next great tools.
Also thanks to Patrick for his fantastic GUI. I know it is not easy to create a GUI that is easy to use but still looks cool. In this case (and nearly every Plugin you two has created) it is perfectly done. Two thumbs up for this.

  22. going to test your epicverb, stupid question at the beginning…

which version (SSE1 or SSE2) to install for current intel I7 cpu?

  23. I had Totally forgot how good this reverb sounded… thanks for the update -Alxi

  24. I have a problem: whenever i load any preset all buttons stay in their previous position and they show actual positions only when I individually click on them. That reduces the usability of presets very much for me. Also, the list of presets has a lag when opening for the first time, but that’s something I can live with.
Otherwise, epicverb is everything I need from a reverb, and then some!

  25. …BUT, this problem with buttons only occurs in Wavelab (5.01b). In Nuendo and Reaper button positions load just fine.

  26. Wow!! Amazingly good reverb! And for free!!
    Thanks a lot!!

  27. Is there a mirror for this. Keep getting the dropbox message that the account has been disabled due to too much traffic.

  28. Hi Bootsie,

your plug-ins are unbelievebly great! To me they were the first reason not to work with a mac. Unfortunately PC to me was so bad I decided otherwise. But now I miss them plugins so much. Save the world and release mac versions…pleeaase !!

  29. would be nice get it all 4 mac too 😉

  30. the mid : side knob is a stroke of genius.

  31. How do you install the additional epicVerb presets?

    • I can’t figure out how to install the extra epicVerb presets either. Can someone please explain? Thanks!

      • As someone else noted – the “extra” presets are in a specific format. I’m using epicverb in Acid Pro 7 and apparently I needed .fxp format. So I found a freeware program called fxtractor that converted them. I didn’t auditon them yet but once loaded, the GUI dials changed, so it looks like it works. I noticed that only the files in the 100 folder converted to fxp. But this should help if you need the fxp format.

    • Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\VST3 Presets\Variety Of Sound
      For Windows Vista/7/8 – C:\Users\%username%\App Data\Roaming\VST3 Presets\Variety Of Sound

  32. Hi, I am having issues with epicVerb in that it displayed the GUI on first run then proceeded to crash my DAW (Adobe Audition 2.0 Dual Core 3 gig Ram – Vista SP2) and on reload and even delete and reinstall it wont load, just shows blank screen.

    Any advice welcomed.

All other plugins from this site work perfectly and superbly.

    • Oh, just the same problem! But I fixed it. There must be two folders with VST-plugins on your C-drive: The FIRST is in Program Files, The SECOND is in Program Files (x86). AAudition usually loads plugins from the SECOND one. Move this plugin into The FIRST folder and add this folder to VST-directory list in AAudition using “Add/Remove VST directory” option. Then refresh VST-plugin list (or add it manually). Good luck!

  33. epicVerb is one of the best reverbs available. i use it in almost all of my tracks
you should try it on snare sounds to add a huge effect and to make the snare sound more massive and heavier (with the eq tuned at about 200-300 and the second one at 2k to 3k)

  34. I downloaded it but I can’t unzip it? Is there something special about installing this reverb? Nasty DLA and FerricTDS installed and work great but I can’t get epicverb loaded.

    • jeresaajoranta says:

I have the same problem. I downloaded the 61 mt .zip file, which has all these plugins. EpicVerb and tessla_se plugins are in some .rar form that I can´t open?

  35. Hi Boosty,

I love epicVerb, unfortunately I have not been able to use in a project on Cubase SX yet. When I launch Cubase and open a mixer window, I can insert epicVerb on a channel, tweek the settings and knob without any issue. However, when I create a project and insert epicVerb on an FX channel, Cubase crashes. I have tried different samplerate and resolutions as I normally work at 24 bit, 96 kHz. All you other plug-ins work fine for me except epicVerb. Any help?

  36. Hi,
I have to say that epicVerb is stunning and thank you for all the hard work!

  38. Looks cool. If you wish to reach out to the majority of audio pros, a OSX version would be great.

  39. I tested this reverb in some studio work and I can say that is a good one

  40. I love the this one, thanks for awsome stuff!!

  41. Probably the best free reverb VST available – I’ve only just installed and tried it out but so far the quality is very impressive and there appear to be lots of useful presets. Fantastic work! My only (minor) complaint is that the presets bundle does not have any installation instructions.

    Extract the epicVerb folder to:

    Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\VST3 Presets\Variety Of Sound

    For Windows Vista/7/8 – C:\Users\%username%\App Data\Roaming\VST3 Presets\Variety Of Sound

Thank you for this great plugin!

  42. Hi,

First, I wanted to thank you for all your work on this and all your other great plugins. They are as good as any commercial plugins I’ve used over the years, and obviously at a fraction of the cost.

Second, I wanted to ask: would you consider doing a 64 bit version of this, as well as some of your other popular plugins? As a programmer myself I know this isn’t a small undertaking, but I am sure that I am not the only one that would pay a reasonable amount to get 64 bit versions of these for the performance and compatibility benefits.

    Thanks again!

  43. Epicverb is unstable in Cubase 8’s 64 bit environment. Running numerous instances of epicverb for prolonged periods on projects will crash Cubase’s VSTbridge without warning and all customized Epicverb settings are lost. Worse than that, Epicverb settings do not save at normal project close in Cubase 8 64 bit. You have to save and reload customized presets individually at project load. The crash kills workflow and wasted hours of my work. The fault is in the communication relationship between VSTbridge and 32 bit plugs, not within Epicverb, but for that issue it is not stable in heavy use in 64 bit environment (without the use of jbridge). To be taken seriously Epicverb needs to step up with a 64 bit variation. If the developer hasn’t been bothered with it, he/she could make it paid. Knowing its value I would be willing to pay, it’s a studio class reverb and deserves 64 bit.

  44. hi bro, are you still updating stuff
let me tell you, epicverb is awesome thanks a lot
I now want to ask you if a 64-bit version will be available 😦

  45. This, this reverb plugin is the unique free vst that I use over the all paid ones very often. EpicVerb is amazing, no metallic artifacts on long, long reverb tails, I can make a long tail on frecuencies under 150-1,500 hz and make diferent long tails for frecuencies above it. I can get louder in mid/side channels, eq and a filter, adjust predelay, adjust two early reflections and 6 diferents types of reverbs, plus 10 seconds add in the long of the tail option. I love this unique reverb. I have other 4 reverb plugins paid software and I prefer this toy of VoS.
