what I’m currently working on – Vol. 13

1. Finalizing epicCLOUDS

When epicVerb got discontinued in April last year, it was already clear that after the brand new plate reverb there would have to be a worthy successor for really large rooms at some point, and it was also clear what it should be able to deliver: Representation of large rooms up to epic dimensions but with accurate stereo imaging. The reverb should also surround the source signal as best as possible, avoiding the feeling of just being attached to it. On the other hand, the so-called ambient reverbs have impressed me very much and influenced my work – I also really like their simplicity. But how do you realise all this and get everything under one hat? That was still completely unclear last year and there were only a few sketches and experiments. But this challenge is also the most fulfilling part of the whole thing, which always excites me anew. And now it has taken shape, already got a beautiful UI and I’m polishing the last bits. If only it weren’t for the manual!

2. NastyDLA mkIII

Can you do any better than the mkII? Not really, and so there will be no changes to the concept or the feature set, but just an update of the technology. The internal routing will be fixed, the filters optimised and internal oversampling added. The biggest change under the hood will be an update of the input stage. All in all, the changes will bring about subtle improvements in sound, but this will also break backwards compatibility, sound wise. The mkIII version therefore gets its own plugin ID and can also be operated in parallel to the old one.

3. VST3, public beta via Discord

VST3 versions could be next and to ensure the stability of the updates, a public beta will be held. The beta will be available shortly via a new Discord server.

Stay tuned!

I need your support!

Since I left Facebook and also don’t have the time to join all these forums – could you support me here and share the info about releases, updates etc. in your social media sphere? Maybe a note in a forum, something like that.
Just help me spread the word ….
Thanks in advance!
Herbert

TesslaPRO mkIII released

the magic is where the transient happens

The Tessla audio plugin series once started as a reminiscence to classic transformer based circuit designs of the 50s and 60s but without just being a clone stuck in the past. The PRO version has been made for mixing and mastering engineers working in the digital domain but always missing that extra vibe delivered by some highend analog devices.

TesslaPRO brings back the subtle artifacts from the analog right into the digital domain. It sligthly colors the sound, polishes transients and creates depth and dimension in the stereo field to get that cohesive sound we’re after. All the analog goodness in subtle doses: It’s a mixing effect intended to be used here and there, wherever the mix demands it.

The mkIII version is a technical redesign, further refined to capture all those sonic details while reducing audible distortions at the same time. It further blurs the line between compression and saturation and also takes aural perception based effects into account.

Available for Windows VST in 32 and 64bit as freeware. Download your copy here.

A brief update on the future of VoS plugins

First of all: I hear you!

While receiving so many questions and requests on this topic on all the different channels these days a brief update here seems to be overdue.

Plugin downloads might be online again as soon as I manage to find a decent free cloud space to offer hassle-free downloads without any traffic/bandwidth limits (or advertising). Hints appreciated.

There are no plans to make them payware.

Some of my plugin designs needs to be revised to assure that they will stand the test of time for yet another decade 🙂 and this means also that they are going to support 64bit of course.

With some selected VoS plugins, there will be a 64bit public beta which is planned to be held this July. I hope you’ll gonna join.

The story continues, stay tuned!

TDR VOS SlickEQ and SlickEQ GE have been updated to version 1.1.0

Binaries/installers for SlickEQ standard can be downloaded from here:
http://www.tokyodawn.net/tdr-vos-slickeq/

The binaries for the GE edition are now available in the customer area at tokyodawn.net.

This minor update fixes several little bugs, greatly reduces general CPU consumption and even adds a new “ECO” processing mode.

SlickEQ_German

1.1.0 Minor update content

  • New “Eco” processing mode with almost zero latency
  • Reduced overall CPU usage
  • Stepped frequency/gain knobs activated by ctrl+drag or right mouse button drag
  • Increased user presets slots count
  • Minor UI adjustments
  • Various minor improvements

what I’m currently working on – Vol. 9

Updates and a brand new release, basically. Since there is a minor issue with the latest TesslaPRO and Rescue versions concerning higher sample rate compatibility, I’m currently into bug-fixing and both will probably make it upfront the summer break. As the next major update you all voted FerricTDS to be the object of desire and I’m already sketching things on the drawing board but developments might not start before Q3.

I’m constantly extending and improving my Stateful Saturation approach and the next incarnation will bring authentic analog style distortion into VST land. It is basically a Variable-Mu based broadcast limiter design from the early days but which is modded to have detailed access to the amplifier distortion – it has warmth and mojo written all over! Patrick also joined in again and will perform his magic user interface artwork. An official announcement will appear very soon, so stay tuned.

Unfortunately, there are no news about 64bit support atm.

TesslaPRO mkII – transient aware signal saturator released

Already announced in April this year and with several delays, the TesslaPRO mkII version is finally available! Based on stateful saturation algorithms, it features an internal expandable ‘color model’ architecture and right from the start five different models are already included being three different ‘console style’ models plus one generic ‘tube stage’ and a ‘tape warmth’ saturation model.

It also introduces advanced DSP processing which is designed to have it applied across the entire mixing stage by featuring zero latency processing and further optimized assembler coding yielding a ~40% lower CPU footprint compared to its predecessor. Its very unique transient control appears further improved, vibrant 2nd order harmonic generation was added and better support for gainstaging is included now.

More and detailed information is included in the manual addendum.

TesslaPRO mkII  is a Windows x32 freeware release for VST compatible applications and you can grab your copy via the download page.

NastyDLA mkII version released

NastyDLA mkII – A classic chorus echo device with tape-delay simulation

  • classic chorus and echo effects
  • authentic signal path coloration
  • tape-delay style feedback and saturation

The mkII version of this plug-in is  an overall technical redesign and features “stateful saturation” algorithms for an improved sound experience and changes several things under the hood. Basically, NastyDLA mkII  remains feature wise the very same but introduces the input stage modelled by this new and exciting technology and also redesigns the tape compression algorithm for an improved IM distortion performance. In general, the distortion generation appears to be more analog like and the perception of width and depth has been improved significantly. [Read more…]
