analog vinyl sampling – WTF?

Analog Vinyl Sampling from Ishac Bertran on Vimeo.

Experimental analog sampling with modified vinyls.

Sectors from a vinyl record are cut and replaced by pieces with exact shape from other records. When played in a vinyl player the needle follows the grooves from both sectors creating sampled tunes or loops.

  1. WTF indeed! You have to be a total fanatic to sample things on a vinyl =/

  2. nice 😀

  3. Cool. How long before music made like that becomes its own genre, and then how soon after that will commercial kits appear on the market to make that process easier? 😉

  4. Is it me – or were none of those examples terribly useful sounding?

  5. More like “You’re doing it wrong.” Why tape up the record when you can slice it up in the sampler after you’ve recorded it? I officially don’t get it (either.)

  6. Can you imagine how badly it’s tearing up the stylus at the “edit points”?!

  7. This is what people with CNC routers do?!

  8. Years ago i read an interviews with Portishead and they cut their guitar parts to vinyl.

  9. Seriously, to take a creative idea and apply it it such a brutal way is a travesty. Mutilating old records for effect seems more form than substance. The idea of sampling pieces of vastly different songs is certainly nothing new, but if done with the right amount of imagination, it can be at least entertaining. More art, and less attempt would be the higher road.

  10. fuck all that – i like it!

  11. Man, I thought the people who posted here were smart enough to see that there is no point to the video other than to MAKE AN INTERESTING LOOKING VIDEO. This PIECE OF ART may, BUT LIKELY MAY NOT have anything to do with your hallowed grounds of music.

  12. The purpose of this kind of process and posting the video on Vimeo/Youtube is just hype.
You talk about me, i’m famous.
Say “it rules”, or “it sucks” doesn’t change anything because every post will just raise the hype by controversy.

You can already read the previous posts to see what i mean…

This is the same process used by M4donn4, L4dY G4g4…and such pseudo “artists” doing things just to raise the hype.
Music has nothing to do in the process.Never.And any form of art nether.
    Art/music is just a pretext.

    Personally, i just don’t care.
I just posted to point out the obvious manipulation…this has nothing to do with art/music.

  13. Why does a dog lick his butt?
    Because he can!

But do we get excited about? I dont think so!
    Cheers
